Parking and travel on Caroline Street will be limited from mid-April into the fall as crews replace water lines under the downtown street.

W.C. Spratt, a Fredericksburg contractor, will work on the lines running under Caroline from Amelia Street to Lafayette Boulevard until early November.

The company will resume work in early 2017 from Lafayette Boulevard to where Caroline ends near Hazel Hill Apartments.

During the work, the parking lane and travel lane on one side of the street will be closed. All travel and parking lanes on the other side of the street will remain open.

Work is expected to take about 45 days per block and be finished by mid-2017.

A meeting was held last week with downtown merchants to discuss the project, including the schedule, and to address concerns.

Deliveries will be accommodated and work that requires disruption of water service will be performed during low demand periods whenever possible.
